The Hunt is (still) On.

Mike, as many (hopefully all) of you know, was let go from his teaching job due to state-wide budget cuts in education (last one in means first one out, right?).  So we are on the hunt for a new teaching job.

With hundreds (literally hundreds) of teachers applying for the open positions, the competition is beyond steep.  Mike was blessed enough to get to interview for one position because our Young Women's president teaches at the school, saw Mike teach Sunday school and suggested to her principal that she interview him.  My visiting teaching companion also worked at the same school and threw in her good word for Mike too.  So, he was one of 4 people (from the hundreds of applicants) to interview for a fourth grade position.  He knew going into the interview (thanks to the YW president) that they really wanted to hire one of the ladies that they had already interviewed.  So she gave him pointers on what cover, etc.  But Mike knew that with having most of his experience in 6th grade and none in 4th grade that it was a long shot that he get the job.

He interviewed very well (was his normal, playful self who said all the right things) and although they did give the position to the other gal, the principal told Mike directly that she was very impressed, loved his energy and wants him at their campus.  She urged him to keep an eye for other positions that open up and call her right away if he sees one come up that interests him.

Since we live in a fast growing development area, their is a very high likelihood that this Elementary school's enrollment will be higher than expected and that they'll have to hire more teachers (hopefully Mike).

We aren't putting all of eggs in one basket.  Mike is sending out resumes to other schools, and soon to other non-teaching jobs as well.  Mike still has his part-time teaching job with Stevens Henager and me, with my part-time job.  But we'd still love to have a "real" job as soon as possible.  :)

  3. I'm not sure... but the odd thing is that for the first time in our MANY job hunts, I am not worried. My inner logic is screaming at me for being so calm, but I honestly forget that there's a chance he may not have a job come August. There's just a part of me that knows he will and FINALLY that part of me is winning the worry battle against my logical side. It's refreshing.
